asked 11/10/22Write system of equations and solve using any method (graphing, substitution, or elimination)
The drama club sells hot chocolate and coffee at the school´s football games to raise money. At one game they sold $200 worth of hot drinks. If they used 295 cups that night, and they sold hot chocolate for 75 cents and coffee for 50 cents, how many of each drink did they sell?

Hi Jose,
H + C = 295 Number of Hot Chocolate Cups plus Number of Coffee cups is 295
75H + 50C = 20000 75 cent per cup of Hot Choc plus 50 cent per cup of Coffee is 20000 cents
-75H -75C = -22125 The first equation multiplied by -75
75H + 50C = 20000 Same second equation
-25C = -2125 Adding the two equations together, "eliminating" the H variable
C = 85 Divided both sides by -25
H + 85 = 295 First equation with 85 replacing C
H= 205 Subtract 85 from both sides
They sold 205 cups of Hot Chocolate and 85 cups of coffee. Makes sense, Hot Chocolate is much better than coffee!
Enjoy
