Need help for my math problem

Calvin went to the store and brought 2 t-shirts for $24.99 each and one belt for $8.49. Before taxes, how much did Calvin spend?

A-33.48

B-43.48

Drea, this doesn't require you to do much work, really.

 

$24.99 is a cent less than $25, right?  You know that 25 x 2 = 50

 

$8.49 is one cent less than $8.50.

 

If I add $50 + $8.50, I get $58.50.  I then have to subtract three cents, one for each $24.99 and one for $8.49.
