twice the absolute value of (x-7) = 2
2|x-7| =2
|x-7| = 1
x-7 =1 and x = 8,
or
7-x =1 and x =6
x= 6 or 8
or it's also common to treat the "difference of a number and 7" as just x-7
then x=8 is the solution for 2(x-7)=2
"difference" is also commonly used as a positive number, such as what is the age difference between two children ages 7 and 1 = 6 even if you mention the 1 year old first and the 7 year old second, so we don't say they are 1-7 = -6 as the difference
