The compound inequality states that x must be less than or equal to -3 or greater than or equal to 5.
In math we use parentheses ( ) for intervals that do not include the endpoints. We use square or box brackets [ ] for intervals that do include the endpoints. So, we want to be sure the -3 and 5 have brackets because x can be equal to those values.
The correct interval notation is (−∝, −3] or [5, ∝).
