Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
if his car gets 17 mpg and a gallon of gas costs less than $30, he'll make it to his destination
if his car gets X mpg and a gallon of gas costs Y dollars,
he'll make it if XY<510
17(30)=510 he'll make it at 17mpg and $30 per gallon
34(15)=510 he'll make it at 34 mpg and $15 per gallon
1(510)=510 he'll make it at 1 mpg and $510 per gallon
102(5) =510 he'll make it at 102 mpg and $5 per gallon
If he's driving an EV, he may never get there, as it may need charging with no charging station, or it may break down with no repair shop with mechanics who have a clue what to do, or even have the parts needed.
But if he's driving an SUV, the EV Liberation Front may slash his tires and break his windows. So no guarantees he can go more than a couple miles from home without ever getting where he's going or going back home. As Thomas Wolfe prophetically wrote about EV's You can Never Go Home Again,
Half way there if he runs out of gas, gas prices may skyrocket, and he's short of money to refuel.
