To solve this in general, you'll want to perform operations on the equation to isolate x on one side:
f(x) = (x + 2)2
√f(x) = x + 2
√f(x) - 2 = x
And then swap the x and f(x) and your new f(x) is the inverse function: f-1(x). So here, we end up with:
f-1(x) = √x - 2
