An electronics manufacturer recently created a NEW version of a popular device. It also created this function to represent the profit, P(x), in tens of thousands of dollars, that the company will earn based on manufacturing x thousand devices: P(x) = -0.16x2 + 21.6x – 400.
Find the original profit, if the company manufactured 40,000 devices. (REMEMBER (x) is in thousands, so what would your x value need to be?)
c.After a natural disaster, the company decided to give 2,000 of the NEW devices to organizations to use in auctions or raffles to raise money to help those affected. In terms of function transformations and P(x), write a function in simplest form that would represent the new profit function based on this. (HINT: because they are giving away the devices, you WOULD NOT count these towards their profit or production. REMEMBER: (x) is in thousands)
1 Expert Answer
1) P(40) = (-.16(40)2 +21.6(40) -400)*10,000 dollars
2) Same equation with x-2 where x appears in the equation.
