Trent can deliver his newspapers in 10 minutes. It takes Lois 40 minutes to do the same route. How long would it take them to deliver the newspapers if they work​ together?

1/10 + 1/40 = 1/T

multiply by LCD, Least Common Denominator = 40T

4T + T = 40

5T = 40

T = 40/5 = 8 minutes working Together

in one minute, Trent does 1/10 of the route

in one minute Lois does 1/40 of the route

together, in one minute they do 1/10 + 1/40

= 1/8 of the route

in 8 minutes they do 1/8 x 8 = 1 =the full route

8/10 + 8/40 = 32/40 + 8/40 = 40/40 = the full route
