how do i solve this problem im very confused and need help i need help solving these types of problems and the non factorable equations and all. 

 

 

please help me in the simplest way possible to explain it to me

you can solve any quadratic expression using the quadratic formula.

 

applying the quadratic formula to the quadratic expression under analysis, we obtain.

 

a=(-29+-√(29)^2-4(3)(-10))/(2*3)

 

a=(-29+-√961)/6

 

a=(-29+-31)/6

 

a=1/3 or a=-10

I am suspecting you got hung up when needing to realize that -1 is a factor:

 

As Arthur said above, the 29a breaks into 30a - 1a.

 

So now you have 3a^2 + 30a - 1a - 10.  Now factor the two groups:

 

3a(a +10)  + (-1)(a + 10), but you might have had

 

3a(a +10)  - (a + 10) and didn't recognize the - as the factor -1.

 

Anyway, now we see the factor a + 10 in both terms and we can factor it out:

 

Factoring (a + 10) from the first term leaves 3a.

Factoring (a + 10) from the 2nd term leaves -1.

 

So you have (a + 10) times 3a and times -1 as in....

 

(a + 10) (3a  -  1) for the answer.
