I need to find the dimensions of a rectangle.

Question

Length of rectangle is 3 ft less than twice the width and the area is 65 ft^2. Please keep in mind I have not done this type of math since the early 80s.

A=65 = LW = (2W-3)W = 2W^2 -3W

2W^2 -3W -65 = 0

W = 3/4 + or - (1/4)sqr(9+4(2)(65)) = 3/4 + or - 1(23)/4 =

3/4 + or - 23/4 = 26/4 or - 20/4 = 6.5 or -5

W = 6 1/2 feet = width (ignore the negative solution)

L = 2W-3 = 2(13/2)-3 = 26/2-3 = 13-3 = 10 feet

A = LW = (10)(6.5) = 65 ft^2
