What is the scalar multiple that will make the 2x1 matrices of [ i, 1] and [ -i, 1] match?

What may help here is to first ask if these vectors are linearly independent or not. One way to find out is to make these the columns of a 2x2 matrix, and row reduce it. If it row reduces to the identity then your vectors are linearly independent. So what was that formal definition of linear independence again?? Checking that out might lead you to your answer ;)
