What this means is what is the value when x = 2 in the first equation and -1 in the second when they are added together.
In other words:
f(2) = -2 * 2
f(2) = -4, and
g(-1) = 3 * -1 +1
g(-1) -3 + 1
g(1) = -2
So we have -4 + (-2)
And that equals -6
