Let x = the unknown number
- twice the difference of a number and 3: 2(x-3)
- is equal to three times the sum of a number and 4: = 3(x+4)
2(x-3) = 3(x+4)
2x - 6 = 3x + 12
-18 = x
Check:
2(x-3) = 3(x+4)
2(-18-3) = 3(-18+4)
2(-21) = 3(-14)
-42 = -42
Check!
