What’s the answer Alvin paddled for 4 hours with a 5-km/h current to reach a campsite. the return trip against the same current took 9 hours. find the speed of the boat in still water?

Paul's answer is correct. The left side 4(s+5) represents the distance traveled over 4 hours with the combined speed of the boat, s, and the river, 5 km/hr. The right side, 9(s - 5), is the distance traveled against the river current. Since both are the same distance, they can be set equal to each other, as Paul has done.
