in slope intercept form

(y-1)/(x+6) = slope = (1+3)/(-6-2) = 4/-8 = -1/2

y-1 = -(1/2(x+6) = -x/2 -3

y = -x/2 -2 where slope =-1/2 and y intercept = -2

slope = the difference in y coordinates divided by the difference in x coordinates, the "rise over run"
