Dimensions of an object can sometimes be determined from the equation describing that object. For example, if it is a cube with side x, we know the volume is x3. If it is a sphere, the volume is (4/3)πr3. If it is a cylinder, the equation would be πr2h. And so on. For some shapes, such as a box, we would need to know more about how one dimension compares to another, but the general formula would be W*H*L = volume.
If all you have is the volume, and the container is a sphere or cube, the equations can be solved to find the dimensions.
