y=x^3 + x -9
switch x and y to get the inverse x=y^3 + y -9
when y=0 x=-9 in the inverse
when y=1, x=1^3 +1 -9 = -7
when y=2, x = 2^3 + 2 -9 = +1
those are the points (-9,0), (-7, 1) and (1,2) on the graph of the inverse
