Whenever we see "a number" or "the number," we should think about symbolizing that unknown number with a variable. Let's use x!
- "Seven times a number" = 7 * x = 7x
- "Product of -2 and three times the number" = -2 * (3 * x) = -2(3x) = -6x
Careful with "subtracted from" — in this case, it means the second piece first minus the first piece:
-6x - 7x = -13x
