In rational functions, discontinuities are caused by the expressions in the denominator. Since the denominator of faction can not equal zero, any expressions that are multiplied in the denominator also cannot equal zero.
x+1 equals 0 when x = -1. x+4 equals 0 when x=-4.
Therefore, the discontinuities happen as x = -1 and x = -4.
