Quadratic equations need to be set equal to zero in order to factor, and luckily it already is, so we get to skip that step.
To factor, we need to find 2 products of 24 that also sum to 11
__ * __ = 24
__ + __ = 11
3 and 8 work for this:
3 * 8 =24
3 + 8 =11
So we would factor like this:
(x + 3)(x + 8)=0
Split each factored pair in parentheses and keep it set equal to zero and solve for each separate x:
x + 3 = 0 x + 7 = 0
x = -3 x = -7
-3 and -7 are both answers to this quadratic
