think of this in terms of the standard exponential function f(x) = e^x
but the base e could have been any real positive number
the standard form is f(x) = a(b)^x + k
where f(x) = b^x is the standard function.
shift it up by k, and the horizontal asymptote is y=k
the last two are most true, the others need to be fixed up a little to be true
