x + 4y > 8
4y > 8 - x
y > (8-x)/4
= 2 - (1/4)x
= (-1/4)x + 2
the y-intercept is (0,2)....
down 1 and 4 to the right... (4,1)
down 1 and 4 to the right... (8,0)
down 1 and 4 to the right... (12,-1)
continues this way, increasing x by 4 and decreasing y by 1
Now tests the origin... (0,0)
0 + 4(0) > 8 ---> 0>8 is false
and 0 > (-1/4)(0)+ 2 --> 0>2 is false ,
so the origin is NOT part of the solution,
and is BELOW the y-intercept of (0,2)
so draws the line with a dotted and/or dashed line
and shades ABOVE
Ex. (0,5) is in the solution region
0 +4(5) > 8 --> 20 >8 is true
and 5 > (-1/4)(0)+2 --> 5 > 2 is true
