h(t) = gt2/2 + v0 + h0
The initial velocity, v0 = 0, since the stone was dropped not thrown. The initial height, h0 = 492 ft.
The problem is wanting the time when the height is ground level = 0. Gravity, g = -32 ft/s2.
-16t2 + 492 = 0
t2 = 492/16 = 30.75
t = √30.75 = 5.545 seconds (taking only the positive value of the square root since this is a measurement)
