Area = L x W

L = x - 3

W = L - 3

W = (x - 3) - 3 Replace L with what L is equal to

L x W = (x - 3)( x - 3 - 3 )

Area = (x - 3) (x - 3 - 3)

Width of rectangle = x-3-3 = x - 6

area = length * width = (x-3)(x-6) = x^2 -3x -6x + 18 = x^2 - 9x + 18
