Please make sure that the question you wrote is accurate. This is my answer based on what I think your question is.
A linear equation follows the form y = mx + b. M is the slope but it is also the stretch factor. Your question has the formula y = x +6. In that way we know that m = 1. We can rewrite the formula as y = 1x + 6. 1 times anything is that thing itself so it is simply written as y = x + 6.
M is the stretch factor and the slope, so a vertical stretch by a factor of three means we are multiplying m by 3. 1 times 3 = 3.
