He wants to fence off a rectangular garden using 7 meters of an existing wall as one side. If he has 15 meters of fencing what are the lengths of each side?

Also if he wants to fertilize the garden how many bags of fertilizer must he use if one bag will cover 2 square meters?

If one side of the rectangle is the 7 meter wall then the opposite side must use 7 meters of fence.  This leaves 8 meters of fence for the remaining two sides, which must be equal so they use 4 meters of fence each.  

 

So the rectangle will be 7 meters by 4 meters.  

 

The area of the rectangle is 7 * 4 = 28 square meters, so he will use 28/2 = 14 bags of fertilizer.
