Question

A store is having a sale on almonds and jelly beans. For 2 pounds of almonds and 3 pounds of jelly beans total is $14. For 6 pounds of almonds and 5 pounds of jelly beans the total cost was $28. Find the total cost for each pound of almonds and each pound of jelly beans.

2A + 3J = 14

6A + 5J =28

6A+9J = 42

4J = 14

J=14/4 = 7/2 = $3.50 for jelly beans per pound

2A = 14 - 10.50 = 3.50

A = $1.75
