B – C = 49
B + C = 99
Adding those together yields
2B = 148, meaning
B = 148/2 = 74 km/h
And then to find the rate of the current you can take
C = 99 – 74 = 25 km/h
So the rate of the boat in still water is 74 km/h and the rate of the current is 25 km/h.
