a scientist has two solutions which he has labeled solution A and solution B. each contains salt. he knows that solution A is 70% salt and solution B has 95% salt. he wants to obtain 180 ounces of a mixture that is 80% salt. how many ounces of each solution he use. ​

70A + 95B = 80(180)

A+ B = 180

A=180-B

70(180-B) + 95B = 80(180)

70(180) -70B + 95B = 80(180)

25B = 10(180)

B = 10(180)/25 = 72 ounces of 95%

A = 108 ounces of 70%

80% is closer to 70 than 95, so you know you'll need more of A than B.

80 is 2/5 of the way from 70 to 95

so

72/180 also = 2/5

2/5 x 180 = 72

70(60) + 120(95 = 80(120)

4200 + 1400 = 9600
