a motorboat travels 343 kilometers in 7 hours going upstream and 584 kilometers in 6 hours going downstream. what is the rate of the boat in Stillwater and what is the rate of the current.​

where S= still water speed and r = rate of speed of the water

speed = distance divided by time

speed downstream = 584/6 = S +r

add the 2 equations to get

343/7 + 584/6 = 2S = twice still water speed

2S = 49 + 97 1/3

S = (146 1/3)/2 = 73 1/6 km/hr
