Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
2(w-6) = 8
2w-12 = 8
2w = 20
w = 10
Unless you really meant
2(6-w) =8
12 -2w =8
2w = 4
w =2
It's a little ambiguous when you the say the "difference" as it could mean 6-w or w-6. both are the difference between 2 numbers. Although generally the absolute value of both would make them the same.
you could write it as 2(absolute value of (6-w)) =8
then 2(4) = 8 whether w=10 or 2
That might be the best way to write it, as twice the absolute value of (6-w) or (w-6) = 8
then you get w =both 10 & 2, instead of just one or the other.
solution is then {10}U{2}, or {10}^{2} not the exclusive or {10}v{2}
