The slope-intercept form that we’re trying to get to here is y = mx + b, where “m” is the slope and “b” is the y-intercept.
On this question we’re given the slope …. Since it’s parallel to 7x – 2y = 8 that means that, m = 7/2. From there then you want to plug in the point (3, -2) into the equation in order to solve for the value of “b”
y = 7/2x + b
-2 = 7/2(3) + b
-2 = 21/2 + b
-12.5 = b
Putting it all together then makes the equation here
y = 3.5x – 12.5 in slope intercept form
-3.5x + y + 12.5 = 0
7x – 2y – 25 = 0 in general form
