Debra, Frank, and Scott have a total of $5  in their wallets. Scott has 2  times what Debra has. Debra has $9 more than Frank. How much do they have in their wallets?

D=9+F

9+F + F + 2(9+F) = 5

9+2F + 18+2F = 5

27 +4F = 5

4F = 5-27 = -22

F = -22/4 = -5.5

Frank has negative $5.50 in his pocket, maybe an IOU for that amount

Debra has 9 more than Frank or a positive $3.50

Scott has twice Debra, or $7

7+3.5 -5.5 = 10.5-5.5 = 5
