Finding the area

Question

A man has 90 ft of fencing to put around a rectangular garden. If the length (l) is 5 times the width (w), find the area of his garden.

L=5W

2L+2W = 90

2(5W) +2W =90

10W +2W =90

12W =90

W =90/12= 45/6 = 7.5 feet

L=5(7.5) = 37.5 feet

Area =LW = 37.5(7.5) =281.25 square feet
