|3x + 2| = 4x+5
break up the equation to equal the original and the inverse.
3x + 2 = 4x+5 and 3x + 2 = -(4x+5)
Then you have to plug your answers back into the original problem because one will not be a solution.
-x = 3 3x + 2 = -4x - 5
x = -3 7x = -7
x = -1
Plug them back in
|3(-3) + 2| = 4(-3) + 5
|-7| = -7
7 does not equal -7 so x cannot equal -3
|3(-1) + 2| = 4(-1) + 5
|-1| = 1
1 = 1 so the solution is only x = -1
