Another teeny bit of algebra coming up...

P = 2500 + 70N

where P = total pay, 2500 = base pay, and N = number of books sold

To find P when N=24 gives us...

P = 2500 + 70(24) = $4,180

Note: the above equation is pretty close to the slope intercept form of y = mx + b, so we would treat P (the dependent variable) as the y values, and N (the independent variable) as the x values. m the gradient would therefore be 70, and the y intercept would be at 2500, or the point (0, 2500).
