Leah and Christopher work at a dry cleaners ironing shirts. Leah can iron 25 shirts per hour, and Christopher can iron 15 shirts per hour. Leah and Christopher worked a combined 13 hours and ironed 265 shirts. Based on the information given we have the following rates for Leah and Chris

Let Leah = 25x

Let Chris = 15y

We have two Equations one for total hours and one for total number of shirts

Equation 1 for total hours

x + y = 13

y = 13 - x

Equation 2 for total shirt

25x + 15y = 265

Substituting for y

25x + 15(13 -x) = 265

25x + 195 -15x = 265

10x = 265 - 195

10x = 70

x = 70/10

x = 7

y = 6

Checking

25(7) + 15(6) = 265

175 + 90 = 265

265 = 265

7 + 6 = 13
