Find the equation of the line that is perpendicular to 12x+15y=3 and going through (12,15), in the following 3 forms: point-slope, slope-intercept and standard form.

We first need to know the slope of the given equation of line.  m=-4/5

 

That means the line perpendicular will have a slope of m=5/4.

 

1)  Point slope  y - 15 = 5/4(x - 12)

2)  manipulate above equation by solving for y

      y = 5/4(x) - 15 + 15   y =5/4(x)

 

3)  Standard form usually means integer coefficients so lets multiply  2) by 4

      4y = 5x >>>> -5x + 4y = 0
