Math in plain English
y + 5 = -5(x+3)
Start by distributing the -5 into the parenthesis.
Now you should have y + 5 = -5x -15. (watch your signs when multiplying by a negative).
Your problem wants the form Ax + By = C. So, we need to get all of the variables (letters) on one side and constants (numbers without letters) on the other.
Subtract 5 from both sides to remove it from the left side of the equation -
y + 5 - 5 = -5x - 15 - 5
Doing the math, we get y = -5x -20
Now we need to get rid of the x on the right side of the equation, so let's add
-5x to both sides.
y + 5x = -5x + 5x - 20.
y + 5x = -20.
Now, you just have to rearrange the left side terms and it will be in the order asked for.
5x + y = -20.
