A football is kicked from the ground in an attempt to make a field goal. The kicker is 90 feet from the uprights. The ball must go over the uprights, which are 12 feet high, in order to score. The football reaches a maximum height of 60 feet when it is 50 feet from the kicker. What is the height of the football when it reaches the uprights? Did the football go over the uprights for the score?

I am sorry I didn;t get you information earlier. I had trouble with internet connection yesterday. I agree withh Stephen;s work. Regardinging value for b, you can multiply value of a = .024 times (x-50) squared and the resulting coefficient of x is eual to the value of b.
You are given the vertex (50,60) so you can put this in vertex form y=a(x-50)^2 +60
you have another point (0,0) so you can substitute these values for x and y to solve for a
0=a(-50)^2 +60
a=(-60/2500)= -3/125= -.024
To find out the height when the ball passes the goalposts find f(90)
f(90)= -.024(90-50)^2 +60
= -38.4 +60= 21.6 so the field goal was made
