At an Allen Eagle football game, one order of nachos and four hotdogs cost $13.00. Three orders of nachos and two hotdogs cost $11.50. How much does each order of nachos cost? How much does each hotdog cost?  

Use these variables:

n = price of an order of nachos

h = price of a hotdog

Translate the questions into following 2 equations:

1) n+4h=13

2) 3n+2h=11.5

Isolate n from equation 1 and get n=13-14h,

then substitute n=13-4h into equation 2: 3(13-4h)+2h = 11.5

simplify and solve h=2.75

substitute h=2.75 to equation 1 or 2, solve n=2

n + 4h = 13

3n + 2h = 11.50

-3 * eq1 + eq2

-10h =11.50 - 39

-10h = -27.50

h = 2.75

n + 4(2.75) = 13

n + 11 = 3

n = 2
