Find three consecutive even integers such that 5 times the third is 18 less than four times the sum of the first and second.
-------------
Anytime you see the words.....consecutive or sequential.....means you have one number followed by the next number in the series or sequence.....1,2,3,4.....now the word EVEN was added....so we have every other number or.....2, 4, 6, 8.........so the three numbers have this relationship.....
Given X
we have the three numbers as follows....
X
X+2
X+4
5 times the third is (equals) 18 less than four times the sum of the first and second.
5 (X+4) = 4 (X+X+2) - 18
.......now SOLVE this EQUATION for X.....and we will have our three numbers......Right?
5X + 20 = 8X +8 - 18
30 = 3X.........X = 10......X+2 = 12......X+4 = 14.......CHECK THIS ANSWER......
Find three consecutive even integers such that 5 times the third is 18 less than four times the sum of the first and second.
5 X (14) = 4 (10+12) - 18.........70 = 88 - 70 = 70......THAT CHECKS PERFECTLY.....ALWAYS CHECK YOUR ANSWERS......
