Question Below:

Who will win the third round of Tug-Of-War?

Round 1: On one side are 4 acrobats, each of equal strength. On the other side are five neighborhood grandmas, each of equal strength. The result is dead even.

Round 2: On one side is Ivan, a dog. Ivan is pitted against two of the grandmas and one acrobat. Again, it's a draw.

Round 3: Ivan and three of the grandmas are on one side, and the four acrobats are on the other. Who will win the 3rd round? Why?

Incorrect. 1 Ivan is equal to 2 grandmas and an acrobat, not just 2 grandmas. An acrobat is equal to 5/4 (or 1 1/4) grandmas. So, Ivan is equal to 2 grandmas and 1 1/4 grandmas, which is 3 1/4 grandmas. On the 3rd round, 3 1/4 grandmas (Ivan) plus 3 more grandmas equal 6 1/4 grandmas. That's greater than the 4 acrobats--who would equal 4(5/4 grandmas)---which is 5 grandmas. Signed--a new grandma who has far better things to do than play tug of war with acrobats and dogs....like babysit.
