If the line contains the point with coordinates (a,2), that means when x=a, y=2. So make that substitution and solve for a.
2+4=3/4(a-8)
6=3/4(a-8)
My suggestion at this point is to multiply both sides of the equation by 4/3 (the reciprocal of 3/4). Then add 8 to both sides of the equation to isolate "a".
