Hi, Summer!
When solving absolute value equations you have to break them up into two separate equations and solve independently.
| 6x+12 | =36 Think: what two numbers have the abs Val of 36? The answer : 36 and -36
6x+12 =36 AND 6x+12 = -36
-12. -12 -12 -12
6x =24 6x=-48
x=4 x= -8
WHY? | 6(4)+12 | =36 | 6(-8) +12 | = 36
| 36 | = 36 ✅. |-36| =36 ✅
I hope this helps. Have a great day, Summer!
