This question gives us two equations:
The cost of the Basic Rental is 65 + 0.25x, where x is the number of miles
The cost of Roadrunner is 50 + 0.50x
We will set these two equations equal to each other because we are looking for when they cost the same amount. We get the following equation:
65 + 0.25x = 50 + 0.50x
We want x to be alone on one side, so we will subtract 0.25x from both sides, as well as subtract 50 from both sides. This results in:
15 = 0.25x
We now divide both sides by 0.25 to get x alone on one side and the solution.
15/0.25 = 60 = x
So the two companies will cost the same at 60 miles.
