The equation tells you what the Fahrenheit temperature is if given the Celsius temperature
F = (9/5)C + 32
Celsius scale goes from 0 at freezing to 100 at boiling water
Fahrenheit goes from 32 at freezing to 212 at boiling water
Multiply through by 5 to eliminate the fraction and get
5F = 9C + 160
9C = 5F - 160 divide by 9 to isolate C
C = (5/9)F - 160/9 = (5/9)F - 17 7/9
check the answer with F=32 and see if you get C =0. It works
check it again with F=212 to see if you get C = 100 It works again.
