The formula for the perimeter of a rectangle is:
P = 2w + 2l
where w = width and l = length. If we use the information that the length is 4 meters less than twice the width, we get a new equation that looks like:
P = 2w + 2(2w-4)
We can then substitute in P and simplify the right hand side
186 = 2w + 4w - 8
186 = 6w - 8
194 = 6w
97/3 = w
