In general, ADB won't be a right triangle, unless CDB is. DB can be shared, with A and C on "opposite" sides of that segment -- in fact, the midpoint of AC will bisect DB. I also note that the triangles could even be similar, with DB serving as the longest leg of one triangle, and as the second-longest leg of the other, without requiring a right angle anywhere. -- Cheers, -- Mr. d.
