I didn't know you can put an = sign into a fraction like that and how can you solve for x with a positive value?

(x + 25)/y = 8. where y = 5

If so, you can plug in the given value for y and then just solve for x

(x + 25)/5 = 8

This can be solved for x.

Multiply both sides of the equation by 5, then isolate the variable on one side of the equation and you should get a positive value. Give it a try.

I got 15.

If y is under the entire equation, that's the same as dividing both sides by y. If y = 5, then we multiply the entire equation by 5.

5x + 125 = 40

In that case, there are no positive values for x.

If y is only under the left side of the equation...
